About the Authors

Lili and Ava Gavitt are identical twin sisters who grew up in a small town in upstate New York, where they fostered a shared love for storytelling and the written word. Throughout grade school, each could be found late into the night reading fantasy novels of every kind, absorbing stories until reading wasn’t enough—they wanted to write their own.

While studying English at Harvard University and writing for The Harvard Crimson, Lili and Ava continued to develop their craft, each working on and completing fantasy novels individually. During their junior year, while between projects, the twins decided to write a novel together—one inspired by their own bond as twins. They developed a collaborative process in which each sister writes the perspective of one twin protagonist, creating two distinct voices that come together to tell a single story.

After graduating in 2025, Lili and Ava devoted themselves to refining their debut novel, The Archon Is Dead—the first of many adventures they hope to share with readers in the years to come.

The Archon Is Dead

A Novel by Lili Gavitt & Ava Gavitt

The Archon is Dead is an adult fantasy novel that blends political intrigue, murder mystery, and an emotionally driven story of sisterhood. With a setting inspired by Ancient Rome, this dual POV narrative follows a set of twins as identical as the authors that wrote them.

Dela and Saffi Petrou have spent years surviving their mother’s ruthless ambitions in very different ways. While Dela, heir to House Petrou, has devoted herself to becoming the perfect successor, Saffi has rejected everything their mother stands for. But when the city’s divine ruler dies under suspicious circumstances and their mother is accused of the murder, the sisters must set aside their differences to uncover the truth before their family is condemned to exile.

Set in a world of powerful noble houses, brutal succession trials, and deadly conspiracies, The Archon Is Dead explores the complicated bonds between sisters, the intoxicating nature of power, and the uneasy balance between mortals and the gods they wish to become. As the twins unravel the mystery behind the Archon’s death, they are forced to confront the difficult question of whether love can survive even the deepest of betrayals.
